Ever learn the word “microcosm”? Means when something is a smaller version of something bigger. Like High School. Mom and Dad’ll tell you it’s nothing, just a phase, but the truth is, High School’s just the beginning. A smaller version of the real world. How people look at you in here, is how everyone will look at you out there.

So… this is a weird one, I’ll admit. But the second the title came to me, there was no way I wasn’t gonna write this.

Now, I could do here what I did in the section for Viral and break down my thinking process for this script, but I gotta be honest with you… there really wasn’t one.

Sure, some thought went into it so as to match up the Western genre with archetypes we know and/or experienced in high school. The New Kid in school matches with The Drifter, or The Man With No Name trope made popular by Clint Eastwood in For A Fistful of Dollars. Damian plays the role of the snake in the grass that takes advantage of the corrupt system, and Trey and his boys are the outlaws that run wild within that system.

So, yeah, some thought went into this. But, there’s no message, no weighty theme to uncover or explore. From FADE IN to FADE OUT, this script is nothing but a fun exercise in “what if".

And with a name like High School Western… it couldn’t be anything but.
